Privacy Policy

WiFi & Filter Guard is a Chrome extension designed for school IT administrators to enforce WiFi connectivity and content filter compliance on managed Chromebooks.

Data We Collect

This extension collects the following data solely for the purpose of enforcing school network policies:

• Email address — The signed-in Google account email is read using the Chrome Identity API when a blocked action is detected (e.g., a student attempts to embed a blocked video in Canva). This is used only to identify which student account triggered the event.
• Block event metadata — When a video embed is blocked, the extension logs the blocked service name (e.g., "youtube.com") and a timestamp. No page content, URLs, browsing history, or design content is captured.

How We Use the Data

Collected data is used exclusively to:

• Report blocked embed attempts to the school's designated reporting endpoint (if configured by the IT administrator)
• Help school IT administrators identify students who are attempting to bypass content filters

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or transfer user data to third parties. Data is only sent to the reporting endpoint configured by the school's IT administrator. If no reporting endpoint is configured, no data leaves the device.

Data Storage

The extension stores connectivity status locally on the device using Chrome's storage API. No personal data is stored persistently on the device. Report data sent to the administrator's endpoint is governed by the administrator's own data retention policies.

Third-Party Services

The extension makes network requests to the following external services for connectivity checking only:

• www.gstatic.com/generate_204 — Google's standard connectivity check endpoint
• connectivitycheck.gstatic.com/generate_204 — Google's secondary connectivity check endpoint
• Content filter URLs as configured by the IT administrator (e.g., blocksi.net)

No user data is transmitted to these endpoints. They are used only to verify network connectivity.

Administrator Control

This extension is designed to be deployed and configured by school IT administrators via Google Admin Console. All data collection features (reporting endpoint, heartbeat URLs) are configured by the administrator, not by end users.

Children's Privacy

This extension is deployed on school-managed devices. It collects only the minimum data necessary to enforce school network policies. No data is used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than school IT administration.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
